2020 Community Rail Network AGM and board elections

Community Rail Network will be holding this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday 11 November 2020. As there remains some uncertainty about large gatherings, this year’s AGM will take place online using Zoom. Elections to the board will also be held at the same time using online voting.


Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM is your chance to find out more about the organisation’s activities over the last year and have your say on its forthcoming plans. It will start at 14:00 and run until approximately 15:30. All Community Rail Network members are welcome to attend and a full agenda will be published later.

The deadline for motions to go to the AGM is 2pm on Wednesday 28 October. If you wish to discuss a potential motion, please contact Community Rail Network’s Chair Richard Burningham at rburningham@plymouth.ac.uk.

Following last year’s rule change, a representative of each station adoption/friends group can now also vote at the AGM, alongside those from CRPs, community station members and individual/honorary members.


Board elections

There are five places up for election to the Community Rail Network board. The role is an opportunity for someone to contribute their skills, knowledge and experience to the future success of the organisation. Whilst the formal part of being a director includes attending meetings of the board and fulfilling a director’s legal responsibilities, we would expect someone to do more than just attend meetings. This is an active role for someone who can give their time and energy in a meaningful way to supporting Community Rail Network develop even further as an organisation.

The board are currently undertaking a review to assess any additional areas of expertise that would be useful (further details will be available by 16 September 2020), but we particularly welcome applications from women and ethnic minority candidates as they are currently under-represented on our board. We also welcome too those with experience of third sector governance, finance and corporate/third sector fundraising.

To be eligible, you need to be the nominated representative of a community rail partnership, station friends/adoption group, community station member, or an Honorary/Individual member, and proposed by two other representatives. This is the first year that station friends/adoption group representatives have been able to stand and vote for the board following the change in rules at last year’s AGM.

The ballot will take place through online voting during the AGM. More details to follow.
