All Aboarders, the Welwyn Garden City Station Adoption Group, wowed the judges at last week’s Anglia in Bloom judging. They judged several categories across Welwyn Hatfield.

Much has been achieved since All Aboarders started improving the station in spring 2018, and now the beds, boarders and planters are ablaze with colour. Proper maintenance of the shrubberies has revealed some beautiful roses which are in full bloom, as are beds and troughs planted up over the last nine months.

All Aboarders has been nominated in Anglia in Bloom’s Best Community Project category. It hopes to emulate the fernery at Danesbury which won the Best Conservation Project in last year’s Anglia in Bloom.

All Aboarders volunteers get stuck into some planting.

Lynda Cowan, founder and chair of All Aboarders said: “We’re delighted to have been nominated for this award. Our volunteers have been working hard over the last weeks and months to improve the gardens on the station, fitting for a Garden City. The judges were full of praise last week and were amazed that we’d only been working on the station for 15 months. Obviously we couldn’t have achieved so much without great help from all our volunteers, sponsors, donors and GTR. We can’t wait for the awards ceremony in September to find out if we’ve won Best Community Project, which we would dedicate to all of them.”

Work continues and the group has big plans for the future. Sponsors of All Aboarders include Digswell Community and Gardening Project, Smart10 Recruitment Agency, Rotary WGC, and Garden on a Roll.
