This morning (December 9th 2015) the Department of Transport announced the winners of the Northern and Trans Pennine franchise competition. First Trans Pennine Express retain TPE and Arriva Trains North Ltd have been awarded the Northern one.
Neil Buxton ACoRP General Manager said ‘ACoRP welcomed the announcement of the new Operators of the Northern and Trans Pennine franchise. The Arriva bid has some very strong commitments to community rail. This underlines government’s belief in community rail as a way of revitalising local lines and services. There are some very exciting opportunities for the sector in the coming years and ACoRP are looking forward to working with Arriva on developing their plans for Northern. Arriva have also committed to the replacement of Northern’s Pacer fleet and service improvements too many of ACoRP’s community rail lines.’ Neil added.
Commenting on First Group’s retention of the TransPennine franchise, Neil Buxton said ‘First have been very supportive of community rail and we’ve had a good working relationship with them. We look forward to continuing and strengthening this relationship in the new franchise’
