Community Rail Cumbria round up

8 Jan, 2019

Flimby School

Community Rail Cumbria have been working closely with Flimby School recently and they are now the registered adopters of Flimby station providing a fantastic opportunity for the school to bring some personality to the station platform and grounds.  As a starting point, pupils designed Christmas artwork as part of a competition with the winning entries being displayed on a banner that appears on the southbound platform of Flimby station.

The teachers and pupils are also working on an exciting Action Plan for the year ahead and the Community Rail team will be supporting them along the way.  Longer term, we hope that by involving the pupils with the station the wider community will respect their work and recent episodes of vandalism will begin to reduce.

We’re really looking forward to developing some innovative initiatives with the children demonstrating how the railway can exert a positive influence in encouraging social inclusion and community responsibility.

Barrow Station

Over 30 pieces of artwork were installed recently by Joe Wardman, Kerstin Esbjornsson and  Warren Birch along the underpass of Barrow station. The beautiful artwork was provided by Greengate Junior School pupils. The pupils’ artworks are evocative, colourful and a welcome inspiration to passengers at Barrow station.
