Hi everyone. We hope you’re keeping well. This week we’re reminding you of our big events coming up, updating on our partnership working, and wishing you a happy International Volunteers’ Day.
Please keep in touch about your work, and pass your stories to Nik, so we can share good practice.
Changing guidance on Covid-19
Following this week’s announcements on England returning to tiers from 2 Dec, we will be studying the new government guidance as soon as it’s finalised and consulting with rail partners on what this means for community rail. We expect to update our online guidance for community rail partnerships and station groups by the end of this week. Please speak to your support contact if you need advice.
Community Rail Awards: reserve your place
We’re getting excited (and hope you are too) about the online Community Rail Awards in two weeks’ time, 9 December, 6.30pm. As well as an inspiring array of initiatives up for awards (see the shortlists), we have special, surprise contributions that will help make it the memorable celebration that everyone in community rail deserves.
Everyone and anyone can attend, so do encourage contacts, partners, friends and family to reserve a free place. Book here (each person wishing to join needs to do this in advance!) Also find out about our chosen charities and donate.
Community Rail Conference dates
Our Community Rail Conference, run with the DfT to share good practice among community rail partnerships, will this year take place online, with presentations, workshops and networking spread over 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th March 2021. More details to follow.
Thanks to all who attended our AGM. Four new board members were elected from our membership (including a station adoption group representative after we widened eligibility last year). See the full board here. Attendees also heard about our last Annual Report, and fed into our priorities for next year.
Community rail and recovery
We wanted to remind you of the briefing we produced on community rail’s role in recovery, as this continues to be so important. We continue to use this, which we produced following our webinar on the topic, in meetings and discussions with government and supporters, and we encourage our members and partners to draw on it, and share with us your examples.
Working together on sustainable transport
We continue to develop our partnership work with other organisations working in sustainable and inclusive travel, and we have now come together as the ‘Sustainable Transport Alliance’. This joined-up working helps to bring wider expertise and opportunities into community rail, and supports strategic efforts to make transport greener and fairer.
Happy volunteers day
It’s International Volunteers Day on 5 December: a chance for everyone in community rail to highlight the amazing work of volunteers year-round, and encourage more people to get involved. It might also be a chance to review if your approach to volunteering is as beneficial and inclusive as it can be. See our resources, or chat to the team for further advice.
Your next Community Rail News is on 10th Dec (a day later than usual so we can announce the Community Rail Award winners). Keep up-to-date in between on Twitter and Facebook.
Keep safe and well,
Jools and Richard
