A station on a popular North Yorkshire line has been given a makeover thanks to the efforts of the local community rail partnership and volunteers from a young persons’ rail organisation.
Esk Valley Railway Community Rail Partnership, which helps to promote the Whitby to Middlesbrough line to residents and visitors and coordinates volunteer activity at stations were the grateful recipients of 20 volunteers from Young Rail Professionals, a group promoting working in the rail industry to young people, came to Glaisdale Station for the day and helped to prune shrubs, dig over borders, paint fencing and fill and plant up new planters. There were people from the Young Rail Professionals group, Northern management, Esk Valley Railway Board members and some of the amazing Station Adopters from along the line came to join in too! It was a great day, lots of fun, food, cake and hard work by all.
General Manager of Esk Valley Railway, Lisa Williams, said ‘Never a truer word – “If you enjoy what you do you will never work a day in your life. We had such a fabulous day, so much fun, lovely to chat to others in the industry and meeting people again whilst in a safe environment. Thanks to all those involved.”
