Take a look at highlights from our 2019 event.

We’re getting ready for 2021

Community Rail in the City provides Community Rail Network members the opportunity to showcase their railway lines, stations and nearby tourism offer while encouraging sustainable leisure travel at railway stations and venues across the country.

With the changing environment we are currently in, it is hard to confirm a date for next year’s event. However, having taken advice from some of the Network Rail station managers who we have worked closely with in the past, we have decided to pencil in two dates:

Wednesday 12 May or Wednesday 30 June

These dates will be reviewed in February when it will be decided if the event can be delivered safely and if so, which date will be more feasible, depending on the situation at the time.

With either date we aim to capture the attention of visitors who may be planning their summer holiday, benefiting from the increased interest of staycations and exploring Britain.

Ideas for taking part

We continue to encourage our members to take part and have displays at railway stations but also consider working with your partners to reach new non-rail audiences with displays at tourism attractions, taking into consideration that audience numbers may be different at these venues than in previous years.

With regards planning activities, it is advised that you ensure any marketing materials (banners, leaflets, giveaways etc.) you are producing for the event can be re-used at a later date. For example, don’t include specific dates on your printed materials, unless of course you know they can be used at other events you are attending in the future. This is also good practice for keeping your activity as sustainable as possible.

If you are interested in taking part next year or would like further advice please get in touch with our tourism and heritage officer, Alice Mannion.
