Community Rail in the City is our flagship annual community rail event, coordinated nationally by us to promote sustainable travel for recreation.Involving community rail partnerships, stations friends and groups, Community Rail in the City promotes their activities and visitor attractions along their lines at a number of mainline railway stations and other key locations across the country, opening up recreational rail travel by showcasing healthy, sustainable, cultural and enjoyable days out and longer trips for people living or working in major cities.

Scenes from 2019’s Community Rail in the City.

Previous year’s highlights included Roman soldiers, sea-shanty bands, a replica Mayflower ship, smoothies made with pedal power, seaside themed displays (complete with real sand!), a replica RAF Red Arrow plane and Atholl Highlanders taking over Kings Cross. Take a look at last year’s Community Rail in the City activities.

With thanks to Network Rail and train operating companies, promotional spaces are available at railway stations across the country. Use of the space is free so all you need to think about is what your display will look like and any activity plans.
