Friends of Wareham Station are celebrating their group connecting with Swanage Railway. The group are now established as a voluntary team, having taken care of the station and car Park since December 2012. all The group were included in the Wareham in Bloom Awards in November receiving the “Green & Clean for the Queen” Award in the South-East England Competition.

The station friends welcome anyone interested in joining our group, with membership costing £10.00 per year. they meet on the second Sunday 10am  to 12pm each month, helping to improve the station surrounds for the local community and passengers using the station. We will be at the Station on Sundays 8 October and 5 November.

South West Trains (SWT) gave the group funding to help their efforts to develop the gardening with planting evergreen shrubs and to progress with a public notice / information board in the car park.

The station friends have assisted in promoting and support the Swanage Railway Trust with the reconnection of the Swanage Trial diesel service.

A collection of heritage photographs of the Wareham to Swanage line throughout its 130 year history is now on show in the waiting room on platform one.

The new Wareham Visitor Guide, with FoWRS featured, has been funded by the Dorset County Council and Purbeck District Council.

As an affiliated group to ACoRP and have attended various stakeholder meetings held by SWT, and TravelWatch SouthWest Seminars.
