Santa takes the train to Kent

19 Dec, 2018

Children enjoyed visiting Santa on the train whilst travelling along the Medway Valley Line on Saturday 15 December 2018.

Kent Community Rail Partnership (Kent CRP hosted by Sustrans) and Southeastern facilitated an event for children to visit Santa, enjoy craft activities, have their faces painted and be entertained by a fabulous balloon artist all whilst travelling along the 2 hour round trip from Maidstone West via Tonbridge and Strood.

Santa enjoying a quick five minute break with Kent CRP’s Therese Hammond and ACoRP’s Paul Webster.

This very positive event allowed Kent CRP Officers to discuss and encourage greater train use along the Medway Valley Line and Swale Rail Line with the attendees.

The reduced ticket fees have been generously donated by Southeastern and match funded amounting to nearly £700 being donated to Railway Children.  Railway Children is an international children’s charity working with street children in the UK and abroad.

Kent Community Rail Partnership is in a strong position to increase train use, contribute to cost savings, increase community involvement and support social and economic development along the Medway Valley Line and Swale Rail Lines.  Thank you to Southeastern without whom train and platform events and activities would not be possible.
