ACoRP (The Association of Community Rail Partnerships) and Abellio UK joined forces at the Department for Transport recently to present a map of community rail lines to under Secretary of State for Transport, Claire Perry. The maps, commissioned by Abellio, have proved to be an important tool in promoting the work of community rail partnerships and have helped to highlight the rapid growth of this new rail sector.
Neil Buxton, ACoRP’s General Manager, emphasised how community rail’s success lay in its ability to work co-operatively with a wide range of people across the railway industry. “We have support across the political spectrum and throughout the railway” he said. “The majority of train operating companies support us in one way or another and we are pleased that this map is one of the ways in which Abellio have chosen to help us” he added.
Jeremy Whitaker, Abellio Head of Commercial Development said, “For the last few years these Abellio sponsored Community Rail Maps are one example of how we have supported ACoRP’s community rail strategy. Community Rail has always been an intrinsic element of Abellio’s rail strategy and I am particularly pleased that this visualisation of the development of community rail demonstrates the real effort and leadership that Neil Buxton and his team alongside the DfT have invested into this important development which is a life blood for many communities.”
