My name is Melanie Lawton. I am the Conwy Valley Railway Partnership officer. I joined the Partnership in 2016. I am the Rail officer referred to by Railway Magazine as ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ attributed Marketing and Communications.

I will be an asset to the ACoRP Board, I hold the general skills as listed on the board advert. I demonstrate some of these as outlined below:

  • Political astuteness, diplomatic, able to deal with conflict: I have a close working relationship and understanding of Welsh Government, its Ministers and Civil Servants. I meet regularly and communicate with Community and Town Councillors to update them on rail activities. I manage conflict from rail users relating to service disruption on a regular basis.
  • Critical thinking, creativity and strategic awareness, with the ability to take a wider, strategic view: I identify opportunities for strategic collaboration partnerships. I lead a Rail Safety Project with school children, rail operator, BTP and Network Rail. My aim was to create a national resource to make a difference to the lives of children and young people on the railway. The project won an 2018 ACoRP Community Rail Award.
  • Leadership and self-awareness, ability to gain respect and attention, confidence: I am a Non Executive Business Development Director at Network She, a Women’s Business Network in North Wales with 600 members. I lead two regional conferences annually that raises the profile of Women in Business. I also run my own marketing business, I offer transferable skills.
