Network Rail staff available for community rail volunteering

As the country emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, Network Rail staff are seeking opportunities to volunteer with community rail – giving them the chance to improve their wellbeing and build relationships with their colleagues and communities.

Under Network Rail’s volunteer leave policy, employees are entitled to up to five days of volunteer leave per year, which they can use to support any UK registered charity or certain community engagement activity – including community safety, early engagement and community rail.

They can choose to split their volunteer leave in a variety of ways, as an individual or part of a team. For example, they could take:

  • One day to clear an area of vegetation to enable artwork installation at a station
  • Half a day to help organise or run a community rail event
  • Two hours to create marketing materials or social media posts

With a workforce of over 40,000, they have a whole host of skills available to support Community Rail Partnerships across the country, in person or virtually.

If you have volunteering opportunities to share, please contact your local community rail lead at Network Rail or CommunityRail@networkrail.co.uk.
