Northern Rail and their staff have really made an impact on the lives of our beleaguered community in Mytholmroyd. They have provided free travel passes for flood affected residents who have been displaced. Reports from the volunteers who have staffed the Elphaborough Hub every day since Boxing Day, emphasise how helpful this is, not only from a cost point-of-view, but also helps people to get away from the worry and mess – if only for a day!

So, thank you Northern!

But it doesn’t stop there – our station platforms are above the level of flooding and unaffected, but our compost area was inundated – it needed clearing away but it would be a daunting task for our volunteers – we are all well into retirement age and this would be physically quite challenging.  To the rescue, on a dashing blue and purple two coach charger came volunteers from Northern Rail to help us. The posse arrived at 9.30 am– ready for action. They must have filled over 50 bags of mouldering bark ready for the skip’s arrival and there’s probably the same amount still to remove – so the next team can take heart, they haven’t missed out on all the fun.

Thank you very much to all concerned another fantastic example of the goodness of people.
