Kent’s Penshurst Station platform is transformed by art

Artwork at Kent’s Penshurst Station

An amazing, surprising artwork installation at Kent’s Penshurst Station has just been completed.  The project was made possible by GTR’s Passenger Benefit Fund and the local knowledge of a Southeast Communities Rail Partnership community rail officer, which led to the engagement of these incredibly gifted artists.

The artists showcasing on the Penshurst Platform Gallery all live locally and are associated with Jessops Farm Studios, a vibrant artist led space in Chiddingstone Causeway.  In this area of outstanding natural beauty, each artist has expressed their own response to places they love.

Jessops Farm Studios is run by Cathy Bird MA, where she paints and offers classes and workshops for adults and young artists with the support of the artists exhibiting at the station. The ethos for painters and students alike is that each follows their own creative path, rather than sharing a studio style.

Cathy Bird said “We like to feel part of the community. Public exhibitions, talks and workshops are held at our studios and some of our artists take workshops to local art groups and other events. We were delighted to be invited to create our ‘Platform Gallery’ at Penshurst station.”

Sharon Gray, community rail development officer at Southeast Communities Rail Partnership said: “We were so fortunate that this amazing group decided to work with our tiny rural station. I can’t wait to see the display in person.  Thank you to all who were involved”.
