Start of Consultation on the Trans Wilts Line Service Designation

Start of Consultation on the Trans Wilts Line Service Designation

20 Feb, 2016

Community groups and passengers in Wiltshire could have more say over the design and operation of their local rail services, under plans announced by Rail Minister Claire Perry.

The Department for Transport has started the consultation of the designation of the Trans Wilts Line, the 32-mile route between Swindon and Westbury known as the TransWilts line — as a community rail service . This is the 41st line to be considered for designation since 2005.

This would allow the community to design train services according to local needs, which in turn would help increase passenger numbers, improve connectivity to key destinations and ultimately boost the local economy.

Details of the consultation can be found on the DfT website and it is open until Wed 6th April 2016
