Passenger transport watchdog, Transport Focus has continued surveying 2,000 people over the last 33 weeks, to gauge attitudes on public transport use during the Covid-19 pandemic. The latest results are available here. We have been regularly summarising the figures for Community Rail News over the past few months.
- The ability to keep a safe distance from other passengers is the most important driver of passengers’ perceptions of safety across rail travel. Operators should continue to provide sufficient capacity to allow passengers to social distance and seek to improve information about busy/quieter services so passengers can plan.
- Train operators should help maintain social distancing and the wearing of face coverings as these will have the highest impact on feelings of passenger safety.
- A majority of travel survey respondants found that train operators were running safe, clean services and were assisting rail users to safely use their services.
