Text 61016: How to quickly report unwanted sexual behaviour on the train

People who commute to work or have travelled home on a train late at night may have a story to tell of a time they felt uncomfortable due to unwanted sexual behaviour. British Transport Police (BTP) are tackling this across the railway network by urging anyone who experiences or witnesses an incident, no matter how small it may seem, to text 61016 to report it.

The message will come through to the control room who can dispatch officers to a location if required, or put you in touch with an officer to speak at a convenient time.

Unwanted sexual behaviour is anything of a sexual nature, including rubbing, groping, masturbation, leering, sexual comments and indecent acts. Nothing is too small or too trivial for BTP officers to investigate.

Chief inspector Lorna McEwan says: “Each report we receive provides us with valuable information which we can use to build a picture of an offender. Often it allows us to notice a pattern of offending behaviour and we will take action. We will always take you seriously.”

Save 61016 to your phone to text BTP discreetly, whether something is happening to you at the time or has happened to you recently.
