Women in Community Rail (WiCR) has been hosting a number of online sessions, open to all involved in community rail, over the last few months. The sessions have been designed with a focus on sharing experience and resources in what has been a difficult and uncertain time. WiCR ‘s Penny Greenwood provides us with a round up of the recent sessions.
Mental Health First Aid
As part of our on-going training programme, WiCR members took part in an all-day Mental Health First Aid training session on 8 October. Among the topics which were discussed:
- strategies for promoting better mental health in ourselves and others
- overcoming barriers preventing us from achieving mental well-being
- sources of help, support and information

Breathing Space
Our WiCR South group hosted a Mental Health Awareness training, on 4 November, as part of our monthly ‘Breathing Space‘ sessions. The session was led by Kelly Burton, health and employee well-being manager at Avanti West Coast.
This session focussed on how all aspects of our lives can be affected by mental health issues,and explored ways to manage and support our mental well-being.
