Community Rail Lancashire to celebrate World Hijab Day

Community Rail Lancashire will be participating in World Hijab Day on Tuesday 1 February 2022. World Hijab Day is an annual event founded by Nazma Khan in 2013 and takes place on 1 February each year in 140 countries worldwide. The aim of the day is to encourage women of all religions and backgrounds to wear and experience the hijab as a way to promote understanding and cohesion.

Community Rail Lancashire is organising a trip to visit a mosque in Accrington on the day, with the visit open to anyone who would like to come along – men, women, Muslim or non-Muslim

Visitors will meet at Burnley Manchester Road Station at 11:30 to catch the 12:03 train to Accrington. Bring a scarf to wear if you would like to. The Stations of Welcome women’s group will be at the station in Burnley to help with wearing the hijabs if required. There will be some head scarves available if anyone needs to borrow one.

From the station, visitors will walk to the mosque and spend time exploring the building which is Accrington’s biggest and newest mosque, returning to Accrington Station to catch the 14:11 back towards Burnley and beyond.
