Community rail groups across the country are encouraging locals to leave the car at home and use more sustainable transport modes for both business and leisure. Part of this strategy is to encourage rail users to cycle to their local station, before taking a train to their desination. One of the biggest obstacles to acheiving this is where can rail users leave their bikes if their is no facility to lock them up at stations.
Fear not, the Friends of Buxton Station have five Sheffield style galvanised cycle hoops (see image above), to give away. The hoops are relatively new and free to a good home.
Before installing them, any group that is interested must obtain landlord’s consent and permission from their Train Operator, as well as undertaking a “hidden services” safety check to make sure that any drilling doesn’t disrupt gas, electric, drainage or water services or exposes individuals to any health or safety risk by disturbing them.
