Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership (Tyne Valley CRP) recently had the opportunity for a sneek preview of the Northumberland Line, with thanks to Northern.
The Northumberland Line, stretching from Ashington to Newcastle, is due to open in 2024 and will feed passengers onto the Tyne Valley Line that runs from Newcastle to Carlisle.
Tyne Valley CRP were invited by Northern to join a route familiarisation special with guests from Department of Transport, Northumberland County Council and councillors from local towns and parishes.
The guests were treated to a special train trip with on board conductor pointing out key points of interest along the route. The train left Newcastle and passed proposed new station areas including Northumberland Park, Seaton Delaval, Newsham and Bedlington.
John Beedle from Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership said:
“This new line will provide a much needed service for local communities and the new housing estates springing up near the railway will help with the area’s economic growth. It has the potential to be a very busy service. We’d like to thank everyone involved at Northern for inviting us and making this journey possible.”
