All smiles on the last Music Train of Penistone Line Partnership’s summer season

The Penistone Line Partnership ran its final music train of the season on Monday 5 September, with local Huddersfield band Fishing for Compliments performing on the Huddersfield to Silkstone Common service, at The Station Inn, Silkstone Common and on the return train journey home.

Music Trains have been a staple activity for the Penistone Line since it was first established back in 1993. A unique way of encouraging people to climb aboard the Penistone Line train, there have been a wide variety of Music Trains over the years – these include the original Jazz Train, to Abba Trains, Burns Night Trains and folk trains.

Music Trains have always offered a night out with a difference, with the added bonus of promoting local talent and local businesses. They have had a wide amount of promotion, from featuring on BBC’s Countryfile, through to being described in The Guardian as ‘infamous’ and ‘completely memorable’.

Although the Music Trains summer season has come to an end, the Penistone Line Partnership will return with a programme of annual festive events later in the year:

  • Monday 5 December 2022 – 19.12 from Huddersfield then to The Station Inn, Silkstone Common with Gledholt Male Voice Choir.
  • Monday 12 December 2022 – (time tbc) from Huddersfield then to The Station Inn, Silkstone Common with Thurlstone Brass Band.
