Friends of Buxton Station (FoBS) has collaborated with Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust to host a crafting day celebrating Buxton’s heritage in an engaging way for children and adults alike.

The ‘All Aboard’ family activities event on Monday 14 August aimed to celebrate the importance of the railways in making it easier for people to get to Buxton, contributing to Buxton booming as a spa town in the Victorian era.

Dave and Sue Carlisle of FoBS helped to tell the story of Buxton’s railway heritage by providing text and archive station and train photographs to be used on the activity tables, as well as helping to deliver the crafting activities and talking with participants about the ways in which FoBS’s work supports the local community.

325 people took part in the event overall, including local families and visitors of all ages who were on holiday in Buxton.

Katie Potter, Education Manager at Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust, said: “We were really pleased that Sue and Dave from Friends of Buxton Station got involved to help make Buxton’s railway history come alive. Our families enjoyed the event, giving some lovely feedback.”

Dave Carlisle, Chair of Friends of Buxton Station, said: “It was rewarding to see so many young people engage with our railway heritage. In particular, the collaborative interaction between generations when creating little cardboard models of the station cheered us enormously.”
