The Friends of Dronfield Station have unveiled the latest art exhibition in collaboration with local schools.
The unveiling event on Monday 13 November is the most recent in a series of events organised by the Friends of Dronfield Station to engage the community with their local station and promote the work of budding young artists.
Students from Gorsey Brigg Primary, Holmesdale Infant and Stonelow Junior schools were in attendance alongside Town Mayor, Councillor Susan Burkitt, and Lee Rowley MP for Derbyshire North East, to see the finished artwork installed in the station’s two waiting shelters.
Christina Teather of the Friends of Dronfield Station, said: “The Dronfield Station Art Project has now been running for ten years. All thirteen local schools are involved and have displayed their work several times – each time the display changes, the students attend an unveiling ceremony on the station along with the Town Mayor and our local MP.
“The project has a number of positive outcomes. It raises awareness amongst our younger residents, the rail travellers of the future, whilst also improving the experience of today’s passengers. It is one of the ways in which we showcase Dronfield as an attractive and welcoming local station.”
Lee Rowley MP said: “It is always a pleasure to come down to the station to see how creative our local schools can be. Congratulations to all the budding artists and to their teachers who I’m sure have encouraged them along the way. Well done everyone.”
Councillor Burkitt said: “People waiting for trains or visiting Dronfield by rail can’t fail to be impressed by the displays of artwork at the station. The current series of pictures maintains the very high standard set by previous schools and goes a long way to making Dronfield Station an attractive feature of the town.”
The current exhibition of artworks will remain until the spring of 2024, when six more local schools will have the opportunity to display their artistic talents.
