The Friends of Buxton Station are flying the flag for a new initiative, inspired by Railway 200, that aims to unite fellow station adoption groups with the acronym ‘FOBS’ through a collaborative writing project.
The project encourages each community group to contribute a 10-word statement expressing their core purpose, proudest achievement or unique qualities.
Organisers, Friends of Buxton Station (FoBS), hope the project will foster a stronger sense of community and shared purpose among the participating groups.
Dave Carlisle, chair of the Friends of Buxton Station, said: “We want to find a way to connect all of the ‘FOBS’ groups with the number 200. The concept essentially parallels a chain-mail style letter, where each group builds upon the previous contribution.
“We want the groups to express in exactly 10 words why they do what they do, what they are most proud of, or what makes their group special. With approximately 20 participating Friends groups called ‘FOBS’, the final document will consist of 20 sentences, totalling 200 words, creating a powerful and collective voice while linking in with the national Railway 200 celebrations.
“To kick things off, the 10-word statement from our group at Buxton is: ‘Unusual community volunteers, for all seasons, who get stuck in!’
