Following the success of their steam locomotive-hauled journey in May, Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company has released tickets for a second celebration train from Bradford, the 2025 City of Culture, to Carlisle.
Over 400 people joined The West Yorkshireman at Bradford Foster Square on Saturday 31 May and now, due to popular demand, a second steam train is set to travel to Carlisle along what Lonely Planet has crowned one of Europe’s most scenic railway lines.
The journey of The Border City Express starts from Bradford Forster Square on Saturday 4 October and passengers will travel by steam along the iconic Settle-Carlisle route, stopping at Keighley, Skipton and Settle stations.
The train will cross viaducts, traverse valleys and pass by the stunning Yorkshire Three Peaks – Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside – with passengers immersed in one of the UK’s most picturesque rail journeys.
At the historic border city of Carlisle, passengers will have a few hours to explore the area before returning via the same route, providing a second chance to travel on the iconic Settle-Carlisle Line.
John Moorhouse, Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company deputy chair, said: “Our May Charter train was so successful, we sold out all the tickets, leaving many people disappointed that they couldn’t join us. We decided to run a second train in Bradford’s City of Culture year, which is also a very important year for the rail industry, as we celebrate Railway 200, the 200th anniversary of passenger rail.
“Passengers will have the opportunity to visit the Farmers Market in the gardens of Carlisle Cathedral, in the Historic Quarter of the city. There will be time to explore the historic landmarks in Carlisle, including Carlisle Castle, the Cathedral and Tullie House Museum, before returning via the Settle Carlisle Line to Bradford.
“Don’t miss this unique opportunity to celebrate 200 years of railway history and Bradford’s cultural heritage. Book your tickets today and join us aboard The Border City Express for a day filled with stunning scenery and timeless rail travel!”
Passengers will have the opportunity to travel on heritage classes in either Premier Dining, First Class or Standard Class. Tickets are now on sale here.
