Podcast celebrating communities along the Arun Valley Line returns for Series 2

A second series of podcasts and short films celebrating communities along the Arun Valley Line has been launched thanks to a unique partnership between community rail, local authorities and tourism organisations.

Launched in 2025, Series 1 explored the northern half of the Arun Valley Line through a podcast and 45‑minute film, spotlighting local voices, wellbeing and sustainable travel.

The second podcast series celebrates six railway stations and their surrounding communities in Arun District: Angmering, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Ford, Barnham and Arundel. Each episode highlights the unique character of the local area, showcasing attractions, walks and community activities that visitors can easily reach by train.

The project was delivered collaboratively by Southeast Communities Rail Partnership, Arun District Council, Horsham District Council, Experience Sussex and Whistlestop Arts, with financial support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

To accompany the latest series, additional funding from Community Rail Network enabled the creation of a fun children’s activity pack. The pack follows Sonnet the Skylark on a mystery adventure, with puzzles and clues that families can solve while travelling by train or from home.

Rowena Tyler, community rail development officer for the Arun Valley Line, said: “This project is a great example of how collaboration between community organisations, councils and creative partners can bring local stories to life while encouraging sustainable travel and exploration.

“By showcasing the attractions and communities along the Arun Valley Line, we hope to inspire residents and visitors alike to discover the area by rail and enjoy everything the region has to offer.”

Councillor Roger Nash, chair of the Economy Committee at Arun District Council, said: “Series 2 is a fantastic celebration of what makes Arun so special – our heritage, our landscapes, and the people who bring our communities to life.

“This project shows the real power of partnership working, with councils, rail partners, tourism organisations and local creatives all coming together to showcase the best of our district.”
