British Transport Police – Community Engagement & Citizen Participation

British Transport Police (BTP) supports citizen participation and community engagement across the rail network, helping partners, communities, and young people play an active role in creating a safer and more confident environment for passengers and staff. The focus is on building trust, strengthening local relationships, and ensuring there are clear, accessible ways for the public to engage positively with policing.

BTP can work with partners such as CRPs,  through collaborative problem‑solving, sharing crime‑prevention advice, and facilitating early conversations with Design Out Crime specialists, who offer practical guidance on designing safer stations, routes, and community spaces. The wider programme also includes volunteer pathways, youth engagement activities, and national initiatives aimed at developing confidence, skills, and community resilience.
