A new community-led initiative encouraging passengers to take pride in their local railway station has been launched at Alresford Station in Essex.
The campaign, ‘Keep Alresford Station Tidy’, has been developed by the dedicated team of station adopters at Alresford in partnership with local pupils from Alresford Primary School.
The children recently designed and painted posters to promote the message of keeping the station clean and welcoming for everyone.
The winning design has been professionally produced as a large poster, while a selection of other paintings has been produced on a banner by the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership (CRP), and will be displayed at the station.
Sharon Perfect, Alresford Station adopter, said: “The competition has been a fantastic way of getting the community involved and inspiring young people to take pride in their local station. We hope it will really help tackle the problem of litter and encourage everyone to think about keeping the station tidy.”
Jane Stewart, Essex & South Suffolk CRP officer, said: “This project was the brainchild of one of our volunteer station adopters at Alresford, Sharon, who worked with the school to produce artwork encouraging passengers to keep the station tidy.
“This is another strong example of how community engagement can make a real difference along our branch lines. The children worked really hard on the pictures, and the winner will get return tickets to London courtesy of Greater Anglia.”
Alan Neville, Greater Anglia’s customer and community engagement manager, said: “This is a truly innovative idea that brings the local community together and encourages positive action.
“The Alresford adopters continue to show incredible dedication in caring for their station and finding new ways to engage local residents. I would like to thank them for their ongoing commitment and hard work in making Alresford Station such a welcoming place for customers.”
