Popular summer rail-bus link from Great Yarmouth Station to run again this year

The Wherry 100 bus service which connects rail passengers arriving at Great Yarmouth Station with the town centre, bus station, seafront attractions and one of the area’s largest holiday parks, will run again this year with extended dates.

Operated by Great Yarmouth based Ambassador Travel, the service is once again sponsored by the Wherry Lines Community Rail Partnership (CRP), enabling prices to be held for a fourth consecutive year.

The service commenced on 6 July, two weeks earlier than in previous years, and runs through until 31 August, every 30 minutes, seven days per week between 9:45am and 6:15pm. View the timetable here.

Fares have been held at 2024 prices with an adult single ticket priced at £2, children (aged 5-19) at £1.50, aged 4 and under free, with family tickets available and national bus passes also accepted.

Since the service began, it has proved hugely popular with both holiday makers and day visitors arriving in the town, along with those from communities along the railway between Norwich and Great Yarmouth including Brundall, Cantley, Lingwood, Acle and Reedham.

The Wherry 100 remains the only bus service to call directly outside the railway station.

In advance of the service commencing, Wherry Lines volunteers have been distributing printed timetables and posters promoting the service.

Chris Mitchell, chair of the Wherry Lines CRP, said: “We are pleased that the Wherry 100 bus between the railway station and key locations will run again this summer and that Ambassador Travel has extended the service by two weeks.

“Many visitors to the town arrive by train and being able to offer a seamless travel experience for onward journeys from the station is a key aim of the partnership and helps to showcase Great Yarmouth as a superb holiday destination.”

Ian Forkes, company director at Ambassador Travel, said: “We are pleased to be operating the Wherry 100 service again and starting two weeks earlier than in previous years.

“We look forward to conveying rail passengers arriving at Great Yarmouth Station with a fast and frequent connection to the town centre, bus station, seafront and Vauxhall Holiday Park.”

Reedham resident Ann Thompson is thrilled the service will run again this year. She said: “It’s wonderful to hear that the Wherry 100 bus will run again this Summer and its starting two weeks earlier too!

“I often use the train to get to Great Yarmouth but the long walk from the station means it’s difficult to reach the town centre, seafront or the beach especially with grandchildren. Having used the service many times since it began, I am absolutely thrilled it is going to run again this summer.”
