Friends of Buxton Station have been collaborating with other local community groups to raise awareness and funds for a local charity.
The volunteers are currently involved with Blythe House Hospice’s ‘Snowdogs: Discover Buxton’ art trail. For eight weeks, Buxton is home to 12 Snowdog sculptures, all uniquely designed by local artists. The sculptures are located in key spots around Buxton, including the railway station, until 15 December, when the sculptures are auctioned off to help raise vital funds for Blythe House Hospice, an organisation which provides tailored care and support to patients and families across North Derbyshire who are affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement.
In addition to hosting a Snowdog sculpture at the station, the volunteers are also hosting a traditional brass band carol concert on Friday 6 December at 6:30pm under the iconic illuminated fanlight at Buxton Station.
The non-denominational concert promises entertainment from Burbage Brass Band, one of the oldest brass bands in the world, who have donated their time free of charge to provide an evening filled with joyous music and community spirit.
Dave Carlisle, chair of Friends of Buxton Station, said: “Our Snowdog, named ‘Bark! The Herald Angels Sing’, inspired us to organise this special festive fundraiser, to spread holiday cheer and support the invaluable work of Blythe House Hospice.
“Make sure to join us to get in the festive spirit – sing your heart out, support your local hospice and help make a difference!”
Sophie Wheeldon, senior community fundraiser at Blythe House Hospice, said: “Our ‘Snowdogs: Discover Buxton’ art trail has been such a success, and it has been an honour to bring such a wonderful festive experience for so many to enjoy with family, friends and loved ones.
“The trail has brought such a buzz to the community, and encouraged so many people to support Blythe House Hospice, and for that we are so grateful. We encourage you to get in the festive spirit and enjoy the Snowdogs Carol Concert. We thank our wonderful supporters at the Friends of Buxton Station and Burbage Band for hosting such a lovely event.”
