Building on the success of its ‘Railway 200; Art Along the Line’ programme, Barton Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has continued creating art through a community-led art initiative centred on Goxhill Station.
In January, volunteers, residents, rail users and community members gathered for the first of six creative workshops to share memories, ideas, archive photographs and historical inspiration that would help shape and design a mosaic to display at the station.
On Tuesday 12 May, participants returned to the station to see the completed mosaic officially unveiled – the culmination of months of creativity, collaborative work and community involvement.
The finished piece vividly portrays an old steam train arriving beside the village’s historic Victorian signal box, which still stands proudly at the station today. On the platforms can be seen crates of fresh local produce waiting to be transported to markets in nearby towns and cities, such as Barton and Hull, reflecting the vital role the railway played in supporting rural communities and trade across the region.

Dawn Branton, Barton Cleethorpes CRP officer, said: “The project demonstrates the continuing power of community rail partnerships to bring people together, connect communities with their local heritage, and create welcoming station environments through creativity and participation.
“The mosaic stands as a lasting legacy of the Railway 200 celebrations, and a reminder of the important role railways continue to play in connecting people and places across the region.”
