Bittern Line CRP volunteers welcome rail passengers to Cromer Carnival

Members of the Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership (CRP) were at Cromer Station from Saturday 16 to Friday 22 August to welcome thousands of visitors to the town’s annual carnival.

The carnival, held every August, is a hugely popular event on the North Norfolk Coast, and on Wednesday 20 August, events included an appearance by the RAF Red Arrows alongside a host of attractions and an evening procession.

Each year the Bittern Line CRP works with train operator Greater Anglia to add and promote extra services along the route, which runs from Norwich via North Walsham and Cromer to Sheringham, showcasing rail as an excellent way to travel to the carnival, avoiding road congestion and the hunt for parking spaces.

On arrival at Cromer Station, passengers were greeted by Bittern Line CRP volunteers, who were able to offer advice on how to reach the town centre and carnival events, as well as handing out the latest free Bittern Line guide containing town maps and a printed timetable.

David Pearce, chair of the Bittern Line CRP, said: “We were pleased to take our exhibition stand to Cromer Station again this year, welcoming passengers arriving for the carnival by train.

“It was encouraging to see just how many people chose to travel by rail this year and be able to distribute our line guides and timetables as well as offering advice on how to reach the town centre and attractions.”
