Car-free champions Good Journey have scooped the Best Decarbonising Leisure Travel Award at the 2026 Decarbonising Transport Awards, recognising their work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from tourism and recreation activities.
The award, sponsored by Quality Bus, was presented at a gala lunch at the Royal Lancaster London on 27 March. Good Journey was chosen from an inspiring shortlist that included Manchester’s G.M. Ringway walking trail, the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail, Ride Leicester’s programme of free cycling events and the National Trust’s ‘Cyclists Welcome’ initiative.
Good Journey launched in 2018, supported by a coalition of transport and conservation organisations including Community Rail Network, to address the need for more sustainable visitor travel in the UK. The Good Journey website offers car-free travel directions and discounts to 500 attractions across the UK, including Derbyshire’s Chatsworth House, Leeds Castle, Suffolk’s Sutton Hoo, and Aberdeen Science Centre.

Louise Dando, CEO of Good Journey, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Good Journey has won the Best Decarbonising Leisure Travel Award. This recognition means a huge amount – not just to our team, but to the incredible network of partners we work with across Britain who are making car-free days out a reality.
“Leisure travel is one of the biggest contributors to car journeys, and together we’re showing that it doesn’t have to be this way. By making it easier, more rewarding and more enjoyable to travel by train, bus, bike and foot, we’re helping thousands of people leave the car at home.
“This award reflects a truly collective effort. We work with destinations like Norfolk, Suffolk and the Peak District, with our members including the National Trust, RHS and Blenheim Palace, and with partners such as Traveline – and we want to say a huge thank you to our fabulous partners and members.
“Congratulations too to all the finalists – it’s fantastic to see so much inspiring work happening across the sector.”
