Community Rail Cumbria encourages adopters to enter ‘In Bloom’ awards

Community Rail Cumbria has once again been encouraging station adoption groups to enter the annual Cumbria in Bloom awards.

Cumbria in Bloom aims to acknowledge and thank station groups for their hard work in keeping stations clean, tidy and welcoming for residents and visitors.

Following the success of the Cumbria in Bloom 2023 awards where several Cumbrian stations picked up ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ accolades, Community Rail Cumbria was again keen to work in collaboration with Cumbria in Bloom, Northern, Community Rail Network and of course the station adopters to encourage more nominations for the 2024 awards.

At the end of March 2024, Community Rail Cumbria facilitated an online workshop, aimed at providing the station adoption groups along its three lines with a greater insight into the benefits of entering the awards, as well as walking attendees through the application process.

Warren Birch, Community Rail Cumbria Officer, said: “We hoped that many more groups would enter this year’s Cumbria in Bloom awards. It is not a competitive process – it simply celebrates the great work that volunteers do and can provide valuable advice on new project ideas and the way groups can be supported.

“Our thanks go to Martin Keating from Northern, Ian Davis from Community Rail Network, Janet Mardon from the Friends of Cark Station, and Cumbria in Bloom organisers for enabling the workshop to take place.”
