Community Rail Lancashire seeking freelance ‘try the train’ facilitators

Community Rail Lancashire is seeking experienced freelance facilitators to join a growing pool of ‘Try the Train’ practitioners to deliver programmes in East Lancashire, Peak District to Derbyshire and South Yorkshire. 

Try the Train supports people to become confident, independent rail users through a structured programme of 3 x workshops and 2 x supported train journeys. All groups are pre-existing, aged 14+ years and accompanied by staff members. 

Key details

  • Delivery period: May – October 2026
  • Fee: £200 per day (10 days across two participant groups)
  • Paid training: 2 days shadowing existing Try the Train delivery
  • A group rail pass for Northern trains will be issued to facilitators

Community Rail Lancashire is particularly keen to hear from people with experience working with community and/or disability groups and groups who face barriers to travel, confidence or access.
