Hello everyone. Spring is at last officially upon us – we hope you are all keeping well and have been enjoying the lighter and brighter days.
Railway 200 Exhibition Train
We’re sure you’ve all seen by now that Railway 200 has confirmed the route for the first three months of the Exhibition Train. The bicentenary train, named Inspiration, will visit 60 locations across Britain over 12 months (including several community rail lines and stations), promoting rail innovation and careers with interactive displays. Read our FAQ sheet for information on the route and details of the volunteer coordinators at each station.
We will be hosting another online session with Emma Robertson and Christy Argyroudi from Railway 200 on Tuesday 8 April, 1.30-2.30pm, who will be available to discuss all things Exhibition Train with members. Join the meeting here.
Rail reform consultation
The UK Government is currently seeking views on proposed reforms to be included in the forthcoming Railways Bill, a key element of which will involve the establishment of Great British Railways (GBR). The consultation deadline of 15 April is fast approaching – find all the details here and speak to Rob if you’d like support with your response.
Community Rail Week
This year’s Community Rail Week will be 19-25 May 2025, and will centre around Railway 200. A toolkit of digital resources will be available later this month. Please continue to share your activity ideas and plans with our comms & policy team.
Active bystander training
The Suzy Lamplugh Trust is running a series of 30-minute training sessions on standing up against harassment. The free and participative sessions are designed to empower more people to be active bystanders when they see harassment taking place, without putting their own safety at risk. There are some specific public transport examples included which members may find relevant and useful. Book onto one of the sessions here.
The provision of bystander training is one way in which community rail could make a positive impact on women’s safety. If you are interested in joining a working group to share your ideas and experiences to further develop work in this area, please contact Gary Shipp.
Send your stories to news@communityrail.org.uk and see our guidance on submitting stories.
Your next bulletin is on 16 April. Keep up-to-date in between on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Bluesky and X.
Best wishes,
Jeremy and Bill
