Connecting town and station through colour with Heart of England CRP

Following the successful Royal Leamington Spa Colour Palette and Warwick Colour Palette developed by artist Stacey Barnfield in collaboration with Warwick District Council, the Heart of England Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has announced the new Rugby Colour Palette Project, funded by Avanti West Coast

Members of the public are invited to help shape the development of the Rugby Colour Palette by making suggestions, via an online form and social media, on people, places, and objects, that residents as well as people who visit and work in the area associate with the town.

The public consultation closes at 23:59pm on Thursday 30 November 2023, after which time Stacey will work his magic to create 6 themed colour palettes.

The colour palettes will go on display in the internal pedestrian subway at Rugby Station in March 2024. The Heart of England CRP will be working with Rugby Borough Council and other local partners to integrate the colour palette throughout Rugby as part of the project’s legacy.

Joanna Buckley, Community Manager at Avanti West Coast, said: “We’re proud to be supporting this great project to transform this part of the station and give the community an opportunity to celebrate what they love most about where they live, as we care about the people and places we serve. Once complete, this giant piece of art will bring to life the local area through colour and will have a permanent home at Rugby Station – a key gateway to the town.

“With the colour palette created by local people, we hope residents will feel a sense of pride and visitors travelling by train will enjoy a bright, warm welcome to Rugby.”

Tom Kittendorf, Chief Officer for Leisure and Wellbeing at Rugby Borough Council, said: “We’re delighted to support the Heart of England CRP’s colour palette project, which has already transformed the stations in Leamington Spa and Warwick.

“For many visitors to Rugby, the railway station is a gateway to the town and this project gives our communities the chance to help create a unique series of artworks which reflect the place we live.”
