Southeast Communities Rail Partnership marked the dedication of one of its community rail officers and the opening of a new photography exhibition with a community event at Buxted Station.
The celebration saw the unveiling of the ‘People, Places, Past and Present’ project in the station ticket office, showing photographs of the Buxted area from the Victorian era through to the present day.
After an appeal went out in the local parish newsletter for photos showing village life over the years, an amazing array of photographs was pulled together from residents, businesses, and community groups across the area.
The project was supported by Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) with grant funding from Buxted Parish Council.
The event proved to be a double celebration for Community Rail Development Officer Sharon Gray, who was presented with a GTR Star Award for her dedication to improving the railway and the communities it serves.
Sharon Gray, Community Rail Development Officer at Southeast Communities Rail Partnership, said: “I was really touched to be recognised to this extent, however none of this would be possible without the continued assistance, sharing of knowledge, support, help and consideration that all my colleagues and people in the local community show me. So, in reality, the award goes to each and every one of you, and I thank you.”
