Passengers arriving in Sheringham by train this week have the opportunity to visit the town’s museum free of charge.
With the town set to welcome thousands of visitors for its annual 1940s Weekend over 21-22 September, the Bittern Line Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has teamed up with Sheringham Museum to enable anyone with a valid national rail ticket to Sheringham to enjoy free admission to the museum over the weekend.
David Pearce, Bittern Line CRP chair, said: “We are delighted to team up with Sheringham Museum this weekend enabling anyone arriving in the town by rail to enjoy free museum admission.
“The museum is a jewel in the crown of the Norfolk Coast with a fascinating array of exhibits including agricultural and fishing artefacts, a spectacular fleet of boats, fisherman’s Ganseys, photographs, prehistoric fossils, an excellent art collection and items from both World Wars.
“We hope this will give a boost to the museum and encourage rail travel, helping to reduce road traffic over the hugely popular 1940s Weekend.”
Throughout the 1940s festival, Bittern Line volunteers will also be at Sheringham Station, welcoming people to the town with free maps, Bittern Line guides and printed timetables available.
The museum is just a short walk from the railway station and will be open on both Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September from 10.30am to 4.30pm. To obtain free admission, rail passengers just need to show a valid rail ticket from anywhere on the national rail network where they have arrived in Sheringham between Saturday 14and Sunday 22 September. Both paper and electronic tickets will be valid.
