Friends of Goostrey Station share best practice with other station adopters

Friends of Goostrey Station (FoGS) have delighted in the chance to share their expertise with another group of station adopters.

In November, FoGS were contacted by the Friends of Silverdale Station along the Furness Line. The group of volunteers travelled by train to Goostrey, seeking advice and ideas from their fellow station adopters.

The Friends of Silverdale Station already regularly tidy the platforms and plant flowerbeds, but now the group are keen to restore the Victorian waiting room for community use.

Christina Burgess of the Friends of Goostrey Station said: “FoGS are rightly proud of their achievements and it’s exciting when others approach us for help. Our visitors were amazed at how much our group had achieved since 2021 – from displays of art and railway memorabilia, to mapping changes in biodiversity, and the rejuvenation of the station building into Goostrey Art Studio.

“They left with plenty of advice, and high hopes for the future of their group.”
