The Department for Transport (DfT) has published ‘Network North: Transforming British Transport’, a new plan designed to improve the UK’s transport networks.
The plan confirms that Phase 2a and 2b of HS2, or HS2 East – the proposed branches of the line north of Birmingham – will now not go ahead.
It outlines how £36bn, described as ‘HS2 savings’, will now be allocated to alternative projects to develop transport infrastructure across the UK.
We have produced a summary of the plan for Community Rail Network members, primarily focused on its rail-related aspects. You can read the summary here.
