The railways have always inspired stories, from children’s classics such as The Railway Children to Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express.
With the UK gearing up to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the modern railway in 2025, Heart of England Community Rail Partnership is delighted to have partnered with the Stratford Literary Festival on an exciting competition to inspire the authors of the future.
‘Rail Tales’ is a national competition that asks young people to submit fiction stories of no more than 1,000 words inspired by trains, the railways or a railway journey.
There are three age categories to enter – 6-11 years, 12-16 years and 17-21 years – with prizes available for the winners in each category.
All submissions must be received by 23:59 on Monday 30 September 2024.
