Visitors arriving in Glossop by train can now pick up a bespoke map to help them explore the area on foot, thanks to a collaboration between the Friends of Glossop Station and the High Peak & Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership (CRP).
Led by the Friends group’s local knowledge, the CRP has produced the new leaflet showing walking trails from Glossop Station to places such as Manor Park and Old Glossop.
The station volunteers and CRP staff gathered at Glossop Station on Tuesday 13 February with Councillor Jean Wharmby, chair of the CRP, to launch the leaflet alongside a stall and giveaways for rail passengers.
Neil Williams, chair of the Friends of Glossop Station, said: “The leaflet is an example of how community rail activities are about much more than trains and railway stations. There are wonderful walks in Glossop, and we could see there was a need for a leaflet showing how easy it is to access family-friendly walks by train. Children and adults alike will enjoy the walks and the leaflet’s friendly design.”
Leaflets can be collected for free from Glossop and Hadfield stations, as well as being available for download here.
