Illustrated poetry book guides young readers on Mid Cheshire Line adventure

Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership (CRP) has published an illustrated poetry book taking young readers on a journey along the Mid Cheshire Line.

The idea for the book grew from a conversation between poet and illustrator Pam Bradshaw, and Bev Robinson, a volunteer with the Friends of Altrincham Interchange, about the popular poetry board at the station.

Written and illustrated by Pam, ‘Travels with Hare and Rabbit’ uses captivating rhymes and colourful pictures to showcase the beauty of train travel and the many attractions that can be found along the line.

Author Pam Bradshaw said: “I was delighted to work with the Mid Cheshire CRP and publish this book. As an Altrincham resident, it was lovely for me to revisit some of the walks, parks and events that can be found along the line.

“The characters of Hare and Rabbit have great fun travelling on the train and encapsulate friendship and a sense of adventure that appeals to our younger audiences.”

Bev Robinson, a volunteer with the Friends of Altrincham Interchange, said: “Our poetry board on Platform 4 is a popular feature of Altrincham Station and often features poems by Pam. We both thought there was a great opportunity for a wider project that featured all the stations along the line, and we are delighted to see the book finally in print.”

Sarah Muir, Mid Cheshire CRP officer, said: “We are excited to bring ‘Travels with Hare and Rabbit’ to the community. The finished result is a book that is both appealing and inspiring to young children.

“Thanks much be extended to my predecessor Steve Forde, who originally worked with Pam and Bev, and Stephen Evans for his much-needed technical advice.”

‘Travels with Hare and Rabbit’ is available for free at all staffed stations along the line (whilst stocks last).

Schools along the line can also contact the Mid Cheshire CRP if they wish to order a bulk delivery of the books. In early 2025, there will be a formal book launch with Pam Bradshaw and four writing and art workshops are planned with local primary schools.
