The Friends of Dronfield Station have unveiled the latest art exhibition in collaboration with local schools.
The unveiling event on Friday 21 March is the most recent in a series of events organised by the Friends of Dronfield Station to engage the community with their local station and promote the work of budding young artists.
Students from Dronfield Infants, Dronfield Juniors and St Andrews CE Methodist Primary schools were in attendance alongside Town Mayor, Councillor Pam Jones, and Louise Jones, member of parliament for Derbyshire North East, to see the finished artwork installed in the station’s two waiting shelters.
The current exhibition of artworks, which can be seen in the six poster cases situated in the waiting shelters on Platforms 1 and 2, will remain until the summer when a display marking the bicentenary of the modern railway in Britain will be installed.
Louise Jones MP said: “One of the great things about my job is that I am able to visit so many interesting parts of the town and to meet some delightful and talented people.
“The children from the three schools have produced such outstanding pieces of work which help to make the station a welcoming place for people taking the train to Dronfield. We must also pay tribute to their teachers who I know have worked hard to encourage these budding artists. Well done everyone.”
Richard Isaac, regional community and stakeholder manager at Northern, said: “Northern is committed to supporting the Friends of Dronfield Station in its work within the wider community of Dronfield.
“We greatly appreciate the efforts of the volunteers who spend hundreds of hours every year making the station a gateway to the rail network and a fantastic place for local people and visitors alike.”
