North Cheshire CRP launches heritage collaboration with The Danny

North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership (NCCRP) has launched a new collaboration with the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society, operators of The Danny, a restored 1903 steamship sailing the River Weaver and River Mersey.

Both organisations are volunteer-led and not-for-profit, with a shared commitment to improving quality of life across communities including Frodsham, Helsby and Ellesmere Port.

The partnership between the two organisations was developed in early 2026, with a focus on creating joined-up experiences that connect local communities with both their railways and waterways, celebrate Cheshire’s transport heritage and encourage sustainable days out.

The Danny will be cruising in Cheshire from May 2026, and the first joint activity will take place on 13 and 14 July 2026, with ‘Discovery Days’ in Ellesmere Port. These events will combine rail journeys with visits to The Danny, offering accessible, family-friendly experiences.

The partnership will also explore ways to highlight how railways and waterways have shaped local communities, with plans for displays at Frodsham and Sutton Weaver stations.

Chris Kimberley, director of North Cheshire CRP, said: “We believe that by working together we can reach more people, strengthen community connections, and help more people engage with their local transport networks.”
Andrea Ward, director of The Danny, said: “This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to increase our positive impact within local communities and encourage new visitors on board.”

Cllr Katie Kendrick OBE, Mayor of Ellesmere Port, said: “These Discovery Days will bring real vibrancy to the town while celebrating our heritage and inspiring pride in our communities.”
