The Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company is launching a special photo competition, to celebrate the line’s 150th anniversary.
Amateur and professional photographers can enter the competition, which will see the best 12 images featured in the 2026 Settle Carlisle Calendar as well as at stations along the line.
The prize for the best photograph will be two first-class dining tickets on one of the Settle-Carlisle Railway Development Company’s special steam charter trains.
The ‘Spirit of the Settle-Carlisle Line’ photo competition forms part of Railway 200, the national campaign celebrating 200 years since the first rail passenger service in Darlington.
Pete Myers, chair of the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company, said: “This is a very special year for the rail industry, celebrating 200 years of passenger rail services, and the 150th anniversary of the Settle-Carlisle Line.
“We want to capture the spirit of our line, which opened in August 1875. The Settle-Carlisle Line has been named the best scenic railway route in Europe by travel publisher Lonely Planet, so there will be plenty of opportunities for photographers to find the perfect location for their photos.
“The competition allows everyone to be part of our special celebrations, and we look forward to seeing all the entries.”
The competition is open to all photographers, amateur and professional. All entries must be submitted in digital and landscape format. Full details of the competition are available on the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company website.
