Popular RSPB Arne summer shuttle bus returns to Purbeck for Railway 200 year

A shuttle bus service is returning for its fourth consecutive year to transport nature lovers to and from the popular RSPB Arne Nature Reserve in Dorset.

From 28 May to the end of August 2025, the Purbeck Shuttle 200 (formerly the ‘2RN’, renamed this year to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the modern railway), will take passengers from Wareham Station to the nature reserve on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The service is operated by Dorset Community Transport and generously supported and funded by the Purbeck Community Rail Partnership, Dorset Council’s Community Transport Fund, RSPB Arne, The Blue Pool and Wareham Town Council.

Steven Booth, community rail officer for the Purbeck CRP, said: “The main objective is to provide a sustainable public transport link from Wareham Station to the RSPB Arne Nature Reserve, The Blue Pool Nature Reserve and Purbeck Park, connecting with the Swanage Heritage Railway.

“This is particularly useful for those without access to a car, as well as for local people coming into Wareham from the outlying parishes, acting as a rural transport hub. This also enables links with walking and cycle hire for visitors staying within the region, thus reducing road traffic, especially during the summer season.

“No bookings needed, just step onboard, enjoy the journey, and experience the outstanding scenery within Purbeck’s internationally recognised heathland.”
