Primary school pupils enjoy seaside adventure by train thanks to Barton Cleethorpes CRP

Pupils from Bowmandale Primary School in Barton have enjoyed a fantastic day out to celebrate Community Rail Week.

After taking part in a rail safety assembly led by Barton Cleethorpes Community Rail Partnership, the young people put their knowledge into practice on a special ‘try the train’ trip, funded by East Midlands Railway.

On the train, the children were reminded about key messages from their rail safety talk and asked about things the remembered. Hands shot up and answers including “keep behind the yellow line”, “never go on the tracks” and “mind the gap”.

At the seaside, the children were treated to a lively puppet show on the beach, which had everyone laughing, cheering and joining in with the fun. And after the show, the group gathered together to enjoy a picnic lunch, giving the children time to relax with their friends and take in the seaside atmosphere.

The fun continued on the journey home as the return train became a travelling entertainment venue. Children were amazed by an onboard magic show, with plenty of tricks and laughter keeping everyone entertained throughout the trip. They also received colourful balloon animals and a packed goody bag filled with books, games, crayons and useful community rail information to take home.

Dawn Branton, Barton Cleethorpes CRP officer, said: “It was a fun day filled with unforgettable memories that the children are sure to treasure for years to come, and they were able to practice what we talked about during our rail safety lesson.

“The trip captured the spirit of community rail – bringing people together, creating exciting new experiences and inspiring the children to enjoy travelling by rail in a fun, safe and engaging environment.”
